

Yesterday (June 26th), the Open Day of the Fraunhofer innovation platform for smart manufacturing at Shanghai Jiao Tong University(Short for FIP-SM@SJTU), as well as the “Sustainable Manufacturing and Digital Transformation” forum, were held in the Lingang New Area.
During the event, SAP China Research Institute and Shanghai Jiao Tong University Fraunhofer Innovation Center signed a strategic cooperation agreement to establish a world-class joint innovation laboratory in the Lingang New Area. The future collaboration will focus on intelligent manufacturing, AI-based smart enterprises, and sustainable development.

Executives from renowned German companies such as Bosch, Volkswagen, ABB, Schaeffler, and partner representatives attended the signing ceremony of the joint laboratory. They also visited the latest developments and innovative achievements of both parties in Industry 4.0, intelligent manufacturing, and smart enterprises, experiencing firsthand the innovative achievements made in these areas in recent years.

The Investment Environment and Preferential Policies were introduced by the High-tech Department of the Lingang New Area Administrative Committee. Joachim Seidelmann, the German Director of the Fraunhofer Innovation Center at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Wang Hua, the Head of Digital Supply Chain Research and Development at SAP China Research Institute, delivered keynote speeches.



Subsequently, in-depth discussions took place among the attendees on hot topics such as Industry 4.0, digitization, sustainable manufacturing, and AI applications in the manufacturing industry. The atmosphere at the event was enthusiastic, with everyone envisioning a more advanced and better future.





The establishment of the Lingang New Area is a significant strategic deployment for China to further expand its opening-up. At this new starting point, the Lingang New Area will continue to focus on expanding its openness and welcome foreign enterprises, including German companies, to invest and develop in the area. They are encouraged to deeply participate in the development and construction of the Lingang New Area, sharing the achievements of development, exchanging development experiences, and jointly creating a better future.
The event was attended by Huang Hong, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission and Deputy Director of the Shanghai Foreign Experts Bureau, representatives from the High-tech Department of the Lingang Administrative Committee, the German Consulate General in Shanghai, the Fraunhofer Innovation Center at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, SAP China Research Institute, and representatives of well-known German companies in Shanghai.
