
On December 17, 2021, the Establishment Ceremony and Academic Symposium of Sino-Swiss Institute of Advanced Technology (SSIAT) was successfully held in the multi-function Hall of the School of Microelectronics of Shanghai University, which adopted a combination of online and offline, and was carried out simultaneously at the main venue of Shanghai University, the sub-venue of Zurich, Switzerland, the Basque, Spain, and the student sub-venue. Shaopeng Lu, Director of Germany Liaison office of Shanghai International Academic Exchange Association, Cheng Danhong, Danhong Cheng, Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai University, Prof.Peter Seitz,President of Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (online), Prof.Charles Lawrie,University of the Basque Country,Spain (online), Professor Felix Lustenberger (online), Dr. Zhang Lei (online) and other core members of the Peter Seitz Academician team attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Siyi Gong, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee & Vice President of Shanghai University.
Cheng Danhong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai University, delivered a welcome speech. The SSIAT will gather top international scientists from Switzerland, Spain and other countries to promote the research and development of biointelligent sensing chips and the transformation of scientific research results, and strive to build a top international research and development base for biochips and biomaterials, a demonstration site for foreign experts in innovation and entrepreneurship in Shanghai and a highland for Sino-foreign scientific research cooperation.
Wang Hao, deputy governor of Jiading District, said that the SSIAT has a deep technical accumulation and talent reserve in smart wearable new medical sensors, precision biochip detection technology, and artificial organ chip database research and development. Jiading District government will make every effort to promote the innovation and development of integrated circuit and biochip industry with the best business environment and the best service guarantee.
Jianhua Zhang, Executive Dean of the School of Microelectronics in SHU, introduced the establishment background, founder and future development direction of the SSIAT. Since July 1, 2020, Shanghai University and Academician Peter Seitz have reached an agreement on the establishment of a joint research center to promote the intersection of microelectronics and life and health frontiers, and discussed the establishment of the Sino-Switzerland Institute of Advanced Technology (SSIAT) at Shanghai University. In March this year, Academician Liu Changsheng, President of Shanghai University, and Academician Peter Seitz signed an agreement to build SSIAT, which also includes international outstanding scientists and industrial technical experts such as Professor Charles Lawrie, Professor Felix Lustenberger and Dr. Zhang Lei.

Peter Seitz, President of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences, introduced that Switzerland is one of the most innovative and dynamic countries in the world, with a per capita GDP that has always been among the top in the world, and a large number of skilled immigrants and foreign investment have created many successful global multinational companies. He hoped that the Institute could learn from Switzerland's development experience, continuously strengthen international cooperation and exchanges, pay attention to the conversion rate of innovation achievements, and actively build a technological innovation system with deep integration of industry, university and research.

Professor Charles Lawrie of the University of the Basque Country in Spain believes that the China-Switzerland Institute of Advanced Technology, which brings together the leadership of chief scientists from different countries and different disciplinary backgrounds, is a melting pot of ideas, disciplines and cultures, and will jointly focus on the development of advanced technologies and materials for the current and future needs of mankind, and will surely become a successful model of innovation and translational science, and has a global influence.


Under the witness of the guests, Danhong Cheng, Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai University and Peter Seitz, President of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences, signed the agreement and carried out the online opening ceremony of the China-Switzerland Institute of Advanced Technology.
Wenlan Xie, deputy director of the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission, said that the Municipal Science and Technology Commission will vigorously support and serve the construction and development of the research institute, vigorously support and service foreign scientists who come to China and Shanghai to participate in scientific and technological innovation and achievement transformation, and contribute wisdom and strength to close international scientific and technological cooperation and promote the progress of human cause.
Lijuan Mao, deputy director of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, said that Sino-Swiss Institute of Advanced Technology will provide a first-class career platform for world-class talents and teams, continuously produce new results in key areas, promote cutting-edge scientific research and breakthroughs in key core technologies, and continuously contribute wisdom and strength to make Shanghai a gathering place for international first-class talents and build a global science and technology innovation center.
At the symposium, Peter Seitz, President of The Swiss Academy of Engineering, And Charles Lawrie, Professor of the University of the Basque Country In Spain, gave presentations entitled " The Future of Healthcare–And the Fundamental Role SSIAT Can Play”, ”In vitro diagnostics and Cancer Therapeutics: challenges & opportunities”.

Before the opening ceremony, Ting Hu and Professor Haoyuan Li, vice deans of the School of Microelectronics, introduced the public platform of micro and nano technology to the guests in the ultra-clean room and workshop.
